Blowing away the competition in his NWBL debut, Josh Turek helped the Red Dust Heelers claim three victories for Round 4 to earn the Player of the Week.

The American Paralympian who helped his country win gold at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio, Turek averaged 32.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 1.8 steals over his first four games to lead the Heelers to two wins over the Sydney Metro Blues and a split of their games against Wollongong Rollerhawks.

Debuting on Friday night against Wollongong, Turek flew out of the gates with a triple-double that included a game-high 30 points on 12-23 shooting, 17 rebounds and 11 assists in a 76-72 upset over the ladder-leaders.

Alongside Brad Ness, he led the comeback for Red Dust in the final term as they overcame a nine-point deficit with Turek collecting six points, five rebounds and three assists as well as a crucial block on Luke Pople inside the final two minutes.

The following morning, the Heelers took on Sydney Metro and led by 22 points at three-quarter time before going on to record a 73-57 victory.

Turek was unstoppable at the offensive end, recording 37 points on 18-21 (85%) shooting from the field in 34 minutes as Red Dust out-scored their opponents 60-36 in the paint.

He came close to another triple-double, finishing with 11 rebounds and eight assists while he also showcased his defensive capabilities, tallying five steals.

Backing up that evening in a re-match against Wollongong, the Heelers turned around an early double-digit deficit to take a four-point lead late in the game as they aimed to recreate their success from the night before.

The Rollerhawks had the answers this time though, prevailing 67-60 although Turek did all he could to keep the Heelers’ winning streak going, scoring 37 of Red Dust’s 60 points on 17-31 shooting.

He added another eight rebounds and five assists while playing every minute of the contest and on Sunday, backed up with another 35-minute performance in a 25-point win over Sydney Metro to cap a brilliant weekend.

Despite recording his lowest scoring output of the round, Turek still notched a game-high 27 points on 10-15 shooting with 11 rebounds, six assists and two steals as he helped his team finish with a 20-3 edge in points off turnovers and a 14-4 edge in second chance points.

The Heelers still sit sixth on the ladder but having played the least amount of games of any team, they have the chance to make an assault on the top four in the second half of the season with Turek leading the way.
