SEASON REVIEW: RSL QUEENSLAND SPINNING BULLETS

RSL QUEENSLAND SPINNING BULLETS

Wins - 5
Losses – 10
Standing – 5th
2015 result – 7 wins, 8 losses

THE GOOD

Queensland were able to record inspiring victories against the Heelers, Wollongong and the Wheelcats. Nicholas Radovich, Jake Fulwood and Jordan Bartley each had breakout games throughout the season while Rollers Matt McShane (5.3 points, 2.6 assists) and Bill Latham (21 points, 7.3 rebounds) were highly effective.

THE BAD

After reaching the playoffs in 2015, the Spinning Bullets will have been disappointed to miss out on the post-season this year while they also recorded two less wins than 2015. Availability of players proved to be their downfall with Radovich (seven games), Bartley (six games) and Latham (four games) unable to bring any consistency to the Queensland line-up.

STANDOUT PERFORMER

A contender for the All-Star Five, Tom O’Neill-Thorne was outstanding for the Spinning Bullets as he played all but one game of the season. He averaged 25.9 points, nine rebounds and seven assists while collecting a triple-double against the Heelers in Round 3. Having now completed his studies, O’Neill-Thorne could be a franchise player for the future.

Next Year

The return of O’Neill-Thorne will maintain the Spinning Bullets as a competitive team in 2017 and in a non-Olympic year, they should see more out of players like McShane and Latham. If McShane can receive more support in the low-point category, Queensland will have a better balance in their squad that could return them to the playoffs.
