Basketball in Hawke’s Bay has continued to grow in playing numbers, particularly in the youth area.  This has placed considerable pressure on Basketball Hawkes Bay (BBHB) to recruit and develop coaches and officials to provide the infrastructure required for players and game development.  If you have an interest in becoming an official, but do not have the confidence and/or experience, don’t worry because we can assist you.

The challenge of officiating can provide some great personal rewards.  As an official you must make instantaneous decisions, resolve conflicts and deal with stress and pressure.  You are in a position to be a positive role model around children and young adults and provide a quality experience for players at all levels.

Basketball officials must be able to bring control to chaos, understand fairness, promote safety and encourage good sportsmanship.  A sports official must have the positive characteristics of a police officer, lawyer, judge, accountant, reporter, athlete and diplomat.
