Rnd 4: Flames Women burn Panthers in Blockbuster Round

By Jake Stoubos

Norwood Flames 85 | South Adelaide 39

The Norwood Flames have kept their undefeated season alive with a huge win over the South Adelaide Panthers this past Saturday night at Wayville.

Norwood was dominant right from the onset. Their Swift ball movement, team unity and ability to create numerous offensive and defensive rebounds were at play, offering them several scoring opportunities early on. South were rendered relatively ineffective by this early flurry of offensive pressure.

This carried over into the second, especially when Opals star Stephanie Talbot was subbed on. Her skill level and precision accuracy gave the Flames a significant score increase almost instantaneously to 54-18 before heading into the half.

Unfortunately for the Panther’s, they weren’t able to make any changes after the half as Norwood continued to show their dominance and why they are such an unbeatable team. Their unrelenting nature in moving the ball up and down the court with ease was too much for South to handle that night.

The final score saw South Adelaide lose to Norwood by an imposing 46 points, 24 of which came from turnovers and 15 from second chances.

Talbot tallied up 24 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, Cara Annetts pulled down 11 boards, Marisa Stabile finished with 14 points, 6 rebounds, while Taylor Ortlepp had 8 points, 6 assists – a solid team effort by all.

Once again, Ieva Nagy was the only Panther with solid stats, finishing with 21 points, 6 rebounds. Jess Nolan and Brianna Wedding both had 7 boards.

Flames coach, Jess Foley will be content with her side’s major win while the Panthers will look to regroup next week against the Bearcats.

Round 5: Saturday, 16 April 2016
