Round 10 Preview - WOMEN

By James Woite

Woodville Warriors (4-5, 6th) v Norwood Flames (9-0, 1st)

In the Match of the Round, the Warriors have the ultimate challenge ahead of them when they take on the Flames at St Clair.

After starting 3-1, the Warriors have won just one of their past five games and currently sit outside the top five. Tavarsha Scott (20.9 ppg) is the Warriors’ most prominent scoring threat. She sits third in the league in points per game.

The Flames are unbeaten in nine games this season and have won 33 consecutive matches overall. Stephanie Talbot (18.6 ppg) is first on the Flames in scoring and fourth league-wide.

Last time they met the Flames defeated the Warriors 60-50.

West Adelaide Bearcats (4-5, 7th) v North Adelaide Rockets (7-2, 3rd)

A win over the Bearcats at Port Adelaide would guarantee a return to the top two for the Rockets.

The Rockets have put together another solid season thus far following consecutive Grand Final appearances. Opad Mader (15.5 ppg) is their leading scorer.

The Bearcats are currently on the outside looking in although they were in a similar position for much of last season before making a late charge to reach the finals. Sky Langenbrinck (12.3 ppg) is the Bearcats’ top scorer.

Last time they met the Rockets defeated the Bearcats 75-57.

Sturt Sabres (5-4, 5th) v South Adelaide Panthers (1-8, 9th)

The Sabres will be looking for a win to maintain their place in the top five when they host the Panthers at Pasadena.

The Sabres started the season strongly with three straight wins but only two wins from their past six games has seen them fall from first to fifth. The Sabres need no reminders about how a sudden decline in form saw them miss the finals last year when they appeared to be a premiership contender early in the season. Jade Johnson (12.7 ppg) is averaging more points than any other Sabre.

Despite reaching the Preliminary Final last season the Panthers started 0-5. They also started 0-5 this year but have been unable to rebound, winning just one of four games since. The Panthers had four wins after nine games at the corresponding point last year. Ieva Nagy (17.8 ppg) is first on the Panthers in scoring.

Last time they met the Sabres defeated the Panthers 78-55.

Forestville Eagles (7-2, 4th) v Eastern Mavericks (2-7, 8th)

The Eagles can move into the top three if they can avoid defeat against the Mavericks.

The Eagles have so far rebounded nicely from their disappointing 2015 campaign where they finished in the bottom half. Olivia Thompson (22.7 ppg) is second in the league in scoring and number one at the club.

The Mavericks have won a couple of games recently but otherwise made little noise. Tracey Carrington (15.2 ppg) is their highest ranked scorer.

Last time they met the Eagles defeated the Mavericks 86-76.
