How many years have you been coaching for?
Pushing 20 years now. After retirement I went straight into coaching of all sorts. Juniors, seniors, assistant, men, women – I’ve done it all.
What clubs have you coached at?
I’ve coached at South Adelaide, been associated with Sturt, North Adelaide and now West Adelaide.
What objectives are you aiming for this year?
Like everyone, we’re just trying to make finals. If we make it to finals, anything can happen as they say.
Are there any areas the team is focusing on this year?
There is. I’ve been involved with Westies as Assistant Coach for 4 years and now doing the head-coaching role. We’ve always had a structured offence in running the triangle but we’ve gone away from that this year, instead incorporating a lot of the stuff that San Antonio run. So a lot more ball movement and a lot more space.
Are there any players to look out for?
Demetrius Perkins out of the College of Idaho is one. Akol Deng is going to be a surprise packet. He’s a very athletic, strong junior just out of U18’s and he’s going to get a lot of game time, so keep an eye on him as well.
Do you think the Bearcats can win the title this year?
Well anyone can win it. You need a lot of luck and a lot of things to go your way at the right time. We’ll go out there and try to be competitive and if we win it, great! But if not, we’re going to be competitive.
