West Adelaide Bearcats 91 | South Adelaide Panthers 55
Although it had little significance, the West Adelaide Bearcats showed glimpses of their 2016 form at home on Saturday Night, earning a commanding 36-point victory over the South Adelaide Panthers.
The match was heralded as a return to form for Ashlea Vordermaier. She piled on 25 points in just over twenty minutes of gametime, whilst Ieva Nagy provided ample support, scoring 16.
It was a fast start for the hosts as Vordermaier and Nagy pulled the strings early, pushing the side out to a dominant 29-12 lead at the first change.
Jasmin Fejo showed her potential in the second term, converting from long to increase the margin to 24, but for much of the period it was the Panthers who dominated.
Teonna Campbell, who had 18 points and 12 rebounds, created and finished a series of remarkable plays to have her side within 15 at the main break.
The threat of an extraordinary fight-back was quickly extinguished, as a brilliant layup and-one from Vordermaier and some straight-shooting from Nagy saw West Adelaide embark on a 14-0 run in the third stanza.
Entering the final quarter with a 27-point deficit is not the ideal scenario, but South Adelaide continued to battle and earn respect.
This was at least until Fejo (nine points) laid a mammoth block on Danita Goodwin, summarising what was a tough night for the Panthers.
The match leaves West Adelaide sitting at 5-10, well and truly away from where coach Tim Brenton would have desired, whilst South Adelaide drop to 2-13.
