The Events by Ramona Mackay Crows, youth girls are bound for Brisbane ahead of the AFL Queensland Under 17 Youth Girls State Championships.
With all matches to be played at Leyshon Park, Yeronga from Thursday October 20 to Sunday October 23, with twelve teams competing across three divisions, with Papua New Guinea entering the carnival for the first time.
Formerly known as the Vipers, the Events by Ramona Crows will compete in division 3 against the likes of Wide Bay, Townsville and Papua New Guinea. The Crows divisional games are fixtured from Thursday to Saturday, with finals and relegation games on Sunday.
The Mackay youth girls, will get to meet the newly formed Brisbane Lions Women's Team with a special presentation on Saturday afternoon.
AFL Queensland Regional Manager in Mackay Jeff Neumann said the excitement was high ahead of the four day championship.
"The introduction of a restructured pathway locally, has increased awareness and participation, with more and more girls trialling for this years program," said Neumann.
"We have a real buzz within the group and the girls have worked hard over the past few months, to get to where they are now.
"Eight of the selected players, where apart of last years campaign including MVP Brooke Laffan and State representatives Lois Beckingham and Lauren Bella.
"Over three-quarters of the team have played club football at some stage this season and we have been able to select high performing athletes from other sports such as Wallis Randell, Madison Macdonald and Molly Hocking. In past we have taken a mozzie squad so to speak, but this years team would be considered medium to tall and that is exciting," Regional Manager Jeff Neumann said.
The Events by Ramona Mackay Crows kick off their campaign against the Townsville Eagles under-lights from 5:00pm on Thursday evening.
