Big V Weekend Wrap – Round 2

Our Youth Eagles went 3 out of 3 this past weekend, continuing the strong start to the season.

Our VYCW had a double header over the weekend, coming away with 2 strong wins to start the season 3-0! Saturday night the Eagles faced Hume City at Diamond Valley, knocking off the Broncos 79-40. Sharna Aryes was dominant, with 18 points (including 3 triples), and was supported by Mikayla Peterson who finished with 12 points and 4 steals. The Eagles were too good right from the start, with a 20-5 opening quarter. Hume City were competitive in the middle 2 quarters but Diamond Valley’s dominance on the boards showed, keeping the Broncos scoreless in the 4th quarter.

The next day, the VYCW Eagles travelled to Kilsyth to face the Cobras who were also coming off a win the night before. The Eagles were slow out of the blocks, finding themselves behind at quarter time. Amelia showed her experience finishing the game with 14 points and 9 rebounds, leading the Eagles to a 58-51 win! The team showed great depth, with 29 points coming from the bench.

Our VYCM registered their first win of the season, with an 86-74 win over Blackburn on Saturday night. All tied up at haltime, the Eagles used the support from our home crowd to push away in the 3rd quarter and keep that lead for the rest of the game. Dylan Dunstan had the hot hand, with 23 points on 61% shooting! He was well suppoorted by Ben Barlow, Matt Baggio and Casey DeWacht who all scored double figures.

Both teams now have the Easter weekend off before returning to the court for double headers on April 7 and 8. They will both travel to Altona Saurday April 7 for tough games against the Gators, before retruning to the Valley Sunday afternoon! Be sure to come support our Eagles as they look to continue their strong starts to 2018!
