Big V Wrap - Round 13

It was a challenging week for our senior teams with only our VYCM getting a win on the weekend.

Our SCM had a tough loss in overtime against a strong team in Waverley Falcons, 100 – 90. Our men finished the 4th quarter 25 – 15 to tie the game and send it to overtime, it wasn’t enough however with Waverley overcoming the momentum and winning overtime by 10 points. The men almost stole the game which would of been icing on the cake for Sam Reynolds as he celebrated his 200th game on Sunday. Ray Sanders had a good game with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals, Matt Reynolds also gave a good contribution with 19 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. This Saturday night our SCM will be looking to steal a win away from home at Casey at 8pm.

Our SCW had a challenging loss on Saturday night against a formidable team in Sunbury Jets, 75 – 56. Kate Oliver is consistently contributing to the team finishing with 19 points and 6 rebounds, Mikayla Pirini had a good game with 10 points and 4 assists. On Sunday our SCW lost to Waverley who came out firing in the 3rd quarter, 69 – 57. Our women were up 39 – 31 at half time but it seemed fatigue set in as Waverley won the 3rd quarter, 22 – 4. Amelia Smith and Kate Oliver were the standouts with 16 points and 13 points respectively. Our SCW have no games this week and will be re-energised for the rest of the season.

We would also like to thank the girls from Melbourne Dance Theatre for coming down on Sunday.

Our VYCM had a great win on Sunday at Dandenong, 72 – 52. The boys were in control from the first tip with Dandenong never leading at any point and their biggest scoring run only being 6 points, Coach Cotter would have been extremely happy with the boy’s consistent performance over all 4 quarters. Daniel Girolami lead the team with 16 points and 2 steals, while Jack Dean had a game to remember with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. This week our VYCM are the 2nd game of our doubleheader on Saturday night at 8pm against the Bulleen Boomers.

Our VYCW lost a nail biter on Saturday night to Hawthorn Magic, 68 -65. In the second half our girls won both the 3rd and 4th quarter but fell just short of getting the win. Brodie Theodore had a strong performance with 15 points and 8 assists, Mikayla Peterson also had a great game with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Our VYCW have two games this weekend starting with being the first game of our doubleheader on Saturday night at 6pm against Waverley Falcons, than the girls will be travelling to Bulleen on Sunday at 1pm.
