Big V Wrap - Round 8

It was a challenging but competitive week for our senior teams. While our SCW had the week off, our SCM lost in a nail-biter against the Hawthorn Magic.

After a slow start, our men found themselves 20 points behind at half time. Thankfully we were able to turn the momentum in our favour and reduce the margin to 3 points with 40 seconds to go. Unfortunately the guys were not able to execute out of the time out and were forced to foul sending Hawthorn to the foul line. Hawthorn converted 1 from 2 free throws with 7 seconds to go leaving us just short of stealing the game. The final score was 63 -59. Brandon Conley was efficient with 18 points, 14 rebounds and shooting at 62% from the field.

This Saturday night is a massive test for our SCM who will be facing the top of the ladder Knox Raiders at DV 8pm. To finish the weekend the SCM will be heading to Mill Park to redeem themselves against the Whittlesea Pacers at 3pm. The men will be looking to get a win for their head coach against his old club.

Our VYCW lost a closely fought game on Sunday against the Nunawading Spectres, 69 – 61. Sian Gillam continues to impress with another double double to her name, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Chloe Tidswell also chimed in with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Our girls will be looking to get 2 wins for the weekend ahead starting with travelling to Waverley on Saturday night at 6.30pm and coming back home on Sunday to play the Kilsyth Cobras at 12pm.

Our VYCM split the weekend with 1 win and 1 loss. On Saturday night our boys scrapped out a win against the Ringwood Hawks, 59 – 54. Josh Gilmore had a good night with 9 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. No player had double digits in points with all but one player scoring showing the wide spread of scoring options for the team. It was also a great win to celebrate Jack McAughtry and Daniel Girolami who were both playing milestone games. 50 games for Jack and 100 for Daniel. On Sunday our boys were outplayed by an efficient Kilsyth Cobras group losing 107 – 57. Lucas Kafritsas had a good game with 12 points and 9 rebounds but the boys will be looking to wipe this game from their minds immediately. This weekend the boys will be looking to get 2 wins starting with Saturday night at DV 6pm against the struggling Waverley Falcons and on Sunday they will be travelling to Knox 1pm to challenge the Blackburn Vikings.

Our women will be looking to stir up the competition this week playing against two of the top 4 teams in the league. This Saturday night they will be facing Waverley Falcons @ Waverley 8.30pm and on Sunday they will looking to impress the home crowd against  Knox Raiders @ DV 2pm. This will be a great weekend for our women to have a real crack at two of the stronger teams in the league.
