DOMESTIC CLUB SPOTLIGHT

HURSTBRIDGE HURRICANES

Every month we shine a spotlight on our Domestic Clubs to acknowledge the hard work and effort of those involved to make their club tick, and celebrate the history and future of these great clubs. This week, let us introduce the Hurstbridge Hurricanes Basketball Club.

1.       Tell us about your club?  Number of members? Where you are based?

Hurstbridge Hurricanes Basketball Club is a small club of 210 members or 28 junior teams plus 10 senior teams.  We are based at the end of Graysharps Road, Hurstbridge at the old Hurstbridge High School site which boasts an unofficial sports and recreation zone with the single court stadium, two football ovals, outside basketball courts and beautiful new walking/cycling tracks.

2.       What has been a highlight of the club?

The club is celebrating its 20th year of incorporation this year with our first junior male and female team playing in the season beginning February 1998.

3.       Who is a team to watch this season?

With the appointment of a coaching director, all our age groups are developing and each season we have been able to enter more A and B grade teams.  Our strongest age group currently would be the u16 boys however we anticipate the current u12 boys and girls to be a force to reckon with in the future.

4.       Is there a volunteer that you would like to recognise?

The club relies on volunteers to run the committee and at the beginning of the season our Registration Officer, Age group coordinators and Treasurer are run off their feet.  I particularly want to thank Samantha Box who is our Coordinator manager and Michelle DeZwart, our Treasurer for all the countless hours you contribute to the club.

5.       Are there any upcoming events or fundraisers for your club?

Every September school holidays our club hosts a 3 on 3 basketball tournament which is open to our club members, all clubs in the NJBL and other leagues under the Basketball Victoria umbrella.  This is our sole fundraiser for the year and is run over two days.

6.       Is there a sponsor you would like to recognise?

We wish to thank our major sponsor, Mason White McDougall who endorses our uniforms and has been a partner with HHBC for many years.   We also have a number of sponsors who sponsor our presentation awards.

7.       If people would like more information on your club, who should they contact and how?

Contact Kayleen Chatfield-Jones, President on 0417522059 or kayleenhhbc@gmail.com

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
