VIC METRO DOUBLES UP ON GOLD AT U16 CHAMPS
The 2016 Australian Junior Championships came to completion last weekend as both the Vic Metro Men and Women took home the gold in a strong display from our State.
After winning 16 gold medals in a row in the Women’s program, Vic Metro had lost it’s way in recent years with some stumbles and out of character results. This year’s team looked to begin a resurgence of the navy blue being a powerhouse and went through the week without too many hitches and were the victors in the final in emphatic fashion – beating NSW Metro, 64-38.
The Men’s program also has experienced some leaner years of results, after the dominance of the era that helped develop NBA level talent, however they too – in an inspiring display, took on all comers and fought their way to a gutsty 76-67 win in the final against Vic Country.
Diamond Valley’s presence was felt throughout the tournament, with Rob Coulter Head Coaching the Metro men, and Zoe Car and Alan McAughtry Assistant Coaching the Metro women, to gold medal glory. Gabby Newton from our U16 1 Girls was a member of the Women’s team and averaged nearly 2 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal per game.
