U.S recruit Shelby Cheslek Signs with Eagles for 2019

Diamond Valley Basketball Association are pleased to welcome U.S recruit Shelby Cheslek to the Eagles NBL1 Womens team for the 2019 season! The 6’5 Centre out of Pullman, Washington, has had a stellar career on the College and International stage, and now will be playing in the Red & Green this season!

From 2011 through to 2016, Shelby stared at Division 1 NCAA team Gonzaga University, one of the top basketball programs in the country. Over her College career, she set the program record for blocks and finishing second in program history for rebounds. Not long out of College, the star centre was invited to pre-season camp with the WNBA side Phoenix Mercury, playing the full pre-season and 2 regular season games. Out of this opportunity, furthermore led her to play 2 weeks in China with the U.S.A team, which was an incredible achievement.

Her professional career has taken her right across the world, from 9 months in Athens, Greece, to then playing in for the South West Metro Pirates in Queensland Basketball League in 2017. Dominating the season at her position, in one particular game she scored 16 points, 22 rebounds, along with 5 blocks and 3 steals. Last year, she took her talents to Ferrol for the 2018/19 season, a team in the Spanish League.

"Her size and strength in the paint will certainly have a positive impact on the team this season, as well as her experience and leadership. I am really looking forward to working with Shelby for 2019.”

This year, our Eagles Senior Teams will be competing against some of the best clubs in Australia, with Basketball Victoria announcing the new NBL1 League in 2019. Shelby will be an ambassador for Marymede Flames Basketball, building on the strong connections between the Junior and Senior programs.
