Anneli Maley Signs with Eagles Elite League team for 2019!

Diamond Valley Basketball Association are thrilled to announce that young gun, Anneli Maley, will be signing with the Eagles Women’s Elite League team for the 2019 season.

Anneli has had no shortage of being on the big stage, with an absolute stellar Junior Basketball career that has led her to multiple representations at the Australian national level, competing in the U16, U17, U18 and U19 squads, and bringing home two gold medals and one bronze for Australia.

Her Father, Paul Maley, is considered an NBL legend, playing 270 games and winning a championship with the North Melbourne Giants in 1994, alongside fellow league legend Darryl McDonald.

In 2016, Anneli joined the Adelaide Lightning WNBL squad for the 2016/17 season, playing 12 games for the team against the best in Australian Basketball. Not long after, she got attention from the U.S Colleges, which led her to signing with the University of Oregon Ducks for the 2017/18 NCAA Division 1 season. As a Freshman, she played 37 games against some of the toughest Colleges the U.S has to offer. Last year, she officially transferred to Texas Christian University.

“Anneli has established herself as one of the most outstanding juniors in recent times; Head Coach Jonathan Goodman stated. We’re excited for the energy and her ability to contribute at both ends of the floor. Her versatility to play inside and outside will be a massive strength for us. It is exciting to have her back playing in Australia”

She will now be returning to the Elite League, after previous stints with the Nunawading Specters and Dandenong Rangers teams in 2016 & 17. We got in contact with her about the news of her signing with our Diamond Valley Eagles for 2019:

“I am looking forward to being apart of a team that has such a great club atmosphere! The support here is amazing and I am excited to be part of the Diamond Valley family!”

This year, the Eagles Senior Teams will be competing against some of the best clubs in the state, with Basketball Victoria announcing a new ‘Elite League’ competition to replace SEABL. In 2019, Anneli will be an ambassador for Yarrambat Phantoms Junior Club, building on the strong connections between the Junior and Senior programs.
