Stephanie Collins Joins the SEABL Eagles

The DVBA is pleased to announce that the final piece of the SEABL Women’s team puzzle, Stephanie Collins, has signed for season 2018.

As a youngster, Collins played her junior basketball with the Bulleen Boomers and Melbourne Tigers and straight away was recognized as something special. Standing at an intimidating 6 foot 5 inches, it didn’t take Steph long to don the Green and Gold when she was selected to represent Australia, alongside fellow Eagles Abi Wehrung and Lauren Scherf, in the 2011 U16 FIBA Oceania Championships. The Sapphires swept the 3-game series, besting New Zealand on all three occasions.

In 2012 the enforcer in the paint was again selected to represent Australia at the U17 FIBA World Championships in Amsterdam. Australia finished 5th and Collins was rewarded with a scholarship to the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence.

In 2013 and 2014 Steph worked hard at her game and was continually trying to improve. So much so that she was included in the Opals squad at the tender age of 18 for the preparation of the 2014 World Championships.

That same year her dream of going to college was realized when she was offered a full scholarship to the highly respected Southern Methodist University (SMU).

Now Steph is flying home and joining the Eagles.

“I’m very pleased to announce my return back home to Australia and even more excited to be joining Diamond Valley for the 2018 SEABL season. I’m excited to help make this new program rise and become very successful in the league. Thank you to Zoe for giving me this opportunity.” Collins said.

Head Coach of the SEABL women, Zoe Carr, is excited about the new addition.

“Adding Steph to our group is exciting and a real coup for our program. She is a huge presence in the paint especially at the defensive end. She is a fantastic person and I can’t wait for her to get back to Australia.” Carr said.
