Sunday we were treated to a double header of preseason action and excitement is growing for the beginning of the Big V season!

 

 

First up, our VYCM took on the Australian Goannas in a great opportunity to be part of our national men’s deaf team preparation. After a first quarter of exchanging scores, the Eagles played a very unselfish style of basketball with a priority of getting the ball to the open man. With injuries limiting the depth of the Goannas bench, the Eagles were able to build upon a halftime lead and finish the game strongly.

Next up, our VYCW took on the Victoria Metro U18 State Team, going down 82-48. The Victoria Metro girls set the tone for the game early, with their full court pressure defense and aggression in the driving lanes leaving the VYCW with their hands full. Some defensive adjustments at both quarter and half time, saw some improvement, but it wasn't until the middle of the third quarter that the team started playing with some real purpose and poise at both ends of the floor. Ash Boek did some great work in the point guard spot coming off the bench and facilitating the offense for the group, with Natalie Davies making her presence felt on the defensive end of the floor in the second half. Meg Crupi and Sharna Ayres lifted at both ends of the floor in the second half, but the damage was already done on the scoreboard. With less than three weeks to go until the 2018 season tips off, the game came at a great time to highlight some areas the girls need to tighten up in, in the lead up to Round 1.

 

The VYCW have their final practice game of the pre-season on Sunday at the DVSFC, tipping off at 2:30pm against the Sunbury Jets Youth League Women.
