Cassidy Gould becomes the newest Eagle

One of Basketball Victoria’s most promising junior athletes has committed to the SEABL Eagles women’s team for 2018.

Growing up in the west, Gould came through the Basketball Victoria pathway from the Altona Gators Basketball club where she was often called upon as the leader of her teams. The combo guard was a regular in the National Intensive Training Program (NITP) and then the National Performance Program (NPP) which is specialized training for athletes that are on the National Team pathway. Having been selected in the U16 and U18 Victoria Metro women’s teams, and also selected for Australian Development Camps, Cassidy’s talent was quickly becoming widely recognized. With fantastic performances at Nationals and at ADC, Gould landed a development position with the Melbourne Boomers WNBL team at the age of 16.

Recently Cassidy was a part of the U17 Australian Women’s team that participated in the Oceania Championships in Guam in 2017. The team came home with a Gold medal and Cassidy herself averaged 9 points per game, 2.4 rebounds per game and an impressive 3.6 assists per game.

“I can’t wait to be a part of the SEABL team this year, especially amongst a great bunch of players. Zoe is an amazing coach and I am excited for the opportunity to play under her.” Gould said.

Head Coach of the SEABL women Zoe Carr is just as excited about the addition.

“Cass is simply a talent. Randy Shanklin out at Altona has done a great job at guiding Cass into senior basketball. She is aggressive at both ends while being a quality team player. She will fit nicely in with our group as she is also a fantastic person.” Carr said.

Be sure to come and support Cassidy and the rest of the SEABL Eagles in April when the season kicks off.
