Thank You Daniel!

Star recruit Daniel Camps of the Diamond Valley SEABL Men’s team, last week flew back to his home state of North Carolina in North America, after a great season averaging 12.1ppg, 5.4RPG and 4.3 APG. Daniels first season in Australia had him quickly acclimating to the league, officiating and style of play with the newly formed team. Having some standout games throughout the season, his physical attack on the basket was very effective on the offensive end.

His work around the club has been outstanding, participating in local community events and domestic programs, as well as drawing in great young following with his dunks and up-tempo play. Unfortunately, Daniel’s season was cut short due to a major Achilles injury that required major surgery.

Ross Wignell, CEO of Diamond Valley Basketball Association, had this to say about his great season.

“It was a shame that Daniel’s season ended the way it did. He had an interrupted year with us but from a playing perspective and a development one, it was pleasing to see Daniel begin to look for his mid range shot. Daniel’s camp coaching and interaction with our juniors during them was encouraging. All of us here at DV wish Daniel a healthy and speedy recovery now that he has had his Achilles surgery.”

Daniel recently made a statement on his big season with the SEABL team and his development over the course of the year.

“This past season was a great learning experience for me and a lot of the guys on the team. Almost half the games we lost we were either ahead or down by single digits going into the 4th quarter. For a new and young group of guys coming together prior to the season I think we did great in this tough league. For me, it took a while to get adjusted to the style of play and how the referees call the games. Being a player, whose primary skill is attacking the rim, there would be a lot of eyes on me when I drive, which gave me openings to finding my teammates ways to score. I didn’t like that I went out with an injury. It hurt not being able to play in the final home game of the season. The community support was very special and having the kids on the sidelines made the home games fun for me”

We wish Daniel the best of luck for his future basketball career and appreciate all of his involvement in the club this year.
