Joel Rimes Re-Signs as an Eagle for 2019

Diamond Valley Eagles are pleased to welcome back Joel Rimes to our Eagles Elite League Mens team for 2019! The former 2017 Victorian Youth Championship MVP re-signed for the year, as he looks to make the next big leap in his development at the top level.

Joel began his basketball career in the North East region of Melbourne, playing junior representative basketball with the Warrandyte Phantoms, whilst also playing in our very own Northern Junior Basketball League for the St Martins Panthers! After completing his junior career, Joel progressed to the senior level of basketball, playing for Warrandyte’ Youth League Men’s team in 2012. Eventually, the 196cm Forward took his talents to his hometown Bulleen Boomers, playing his rookie season for the club, averaging 14 points per game.

In 2017, Joel took his game to new heights, where in just his second season with the Boomers, he was awarded Big V Youth Championship Men’s Most Valuable Player award and selected as a member of the league’ All-Star Five. In his MVP year, he averaged 16.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3 assists per game.

In 2018, Joel signed with our Diamond Valley Eagles, getting his first taste of Senior Championship basketball, making an impact off the bench with the second unit with his efficient shooting and overall IQ.

Grant Wallace, Head Coach of the Eagles Mens team, has been impressed with the second-year players preparation for the 2019 season;

“Joel had an outstanding Youth League career and last year in SEABL, he was like a sponge for knowledge, learning a lot from his first year. Now he has adjusted to the tempo of the game, I believe he will come back stronger, showing impressive form in his pre-season and taking on board all of the advice. His basketball IQ is outstanding and I am really looking forward to watching him grow in the rotation in 2019”

This year, the Eagles Senior Teams will be competing against some of the best clubs in South East Australia, with Basketball Victoria announcing a new ‘Elite League’ competition to replace SEABL. In 2019, Joel will be an ambassador for St Martins Panthers, building on the strong connections between the Junior and Senior programs.
