Sophia Locandro Joins NBL1 Eagles Womens team for 2019
Diamond Valley Basketball Association are pleased to announce that Sophia Locandro will be joining our NBL1 Womens Eagles team for the 2019 season. This will be her first-time wearing Eagles colours, as recently to date she has had a stellar junior career.
Sophia played her high school basketball at Wesley College, playing the position of Power Forward and Shooting Center at the prestigious school. In late 2018, Sophia was recruited to play at the University of California, inking a scholarship at the U.S College!
Sophia has had great success in the Vic Metro program, representing the state at the U/16 & U/18 and more recently the U/20 for the National Championships, winning a gold medal in each team. Recently, she was selected as part of the Dandenong Rangers WNBL Academy, where a select group of talented young players are brought in for assist the development to the professional level.
“Sophia is an outstanding Junior athlete,” Head Coach Jonathan Goodman explained.
“Adding another Gold Medal at the recent U20 National Junior Championships to bring her tally to 3 Gold medals is an incredible achievement. She stands at an impressive 6’4 who can stretch and shoot from range, as well as her ability to finish around the basket. We’re excited to have Sophia join the Eagles and looking forward to her developing in all areas of her game before she takes up a scholarship in the US.”
This year, our Eagles Senior Teams will be competing against some of the best clubs in Australia, with Basketball Victoria announcing the new NBL1 League in 2019. Sophia will be an ambassador for Rosanna East Basketball, building on the strong connections between the Junior and Senior programs.
