SEABL Preseason Wrap

Over the weekend both our SEABL Men and Women headed down to the AWA Alliance Stadium to play in a SEABL pre-season tournament hosted by the Geelong Supercats.

Game 1 for our Women on Saturday saw them up against the reigning champions, Geelong, and it was tough from the tip. The group were still working each other out and discovering the strengths and weaknesses. The Eagles ended up losing in a physical game 61-66 but came away from the game with plenty to work on.

On Sunday afternoon Our Eagles matched up against a well drilled Melbourne team and it was a fast paced start to the game. Both teams looked to attack the basket early resulting in foul trouble for both groups. Midway through the first term, the girls clicked at both ends which saw the team break the game open. The game resulted in a 79-53 win and feeling good about what the group accomplished over the weekend.

The SEABL Men went into the weekend seeing it as a great opportunity to learn much about each other and get to know one another.  Without import Daniel Camps and back-up big Liam Killey for the weekend due to nagging injuries, the team came up against the Geelong Supercats on the Saturday evening.  After a slow start the Eagles fought their way back to be down 2 with 2 minutes to play in the third, but ended up losing by 18 to the experienced and well drilled Supercat roster.  Sunday afternoon the team played the SEABL powerhouse in the Mount Gambier Pioneers. Again, a slow start in getting used to the tempo had the Eagles playing catch-up to eventually go down by 10 points.

Your last chance to catch your SEABL Eagle Women before the season begins is this Sunday 25th @ DVSFC, 2:30pm against the Nunawading Spectres after the Family Day and Singlet Presentation. Come down and meet both of the Men’s and Women’s teams that will be representing you in the SEABL competition this season!

April 6 is the Season Opener for both our SEABL sides, at the Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre against Bendigo!
