Brendan Jackson steps down as head coach of Youth League Women’s team

Over the past 3 years in the position, Brendan has been instrumental in the early links between the under 16’s, under 18’s and youth league women’s team, by developing younger athletes through his own practice sessions. These sessions were key to building the individual skills of the players in our programs.

Alan McAughtry, Director of Coaching for the Diamond Valley Program, had this to say about Brendan’s commitment to the VYCW program.

“Brendan presented himself to the program three years ago and integrated himself into the Diamond Valley Program very early on. He changed the mindset and culture within the youth league program, invited younger players into his practices and would often be seen working players out before his regular job.  Having taken his team to a final this year with an extremely young group and the challenges that go with that, he remained upbeat and leaves knowing he has impacted many young people along the way.

I thank Brendan for his commitment to the players, staff and the club and wish him well in his study and work life. I know he will not be lost to the Diamond Valley Program”

Jackson led the success of the 2018 Youth League Women’s team, finishing 3rd in their pool for the season. Unfortunately, the girls lost an elimination final against a very tough Melbourne Tigers by 4 points in July. Brendan had this to say about his role with the program.

"Coaching the VYCW at Diamond Valley for the past three years has been an amazing experience. I've really enjoyed the challenge of coaching senior basketball, and would like to thank Ross, Al and the board for all the support they have given me over the last three years. I'm unfortunately stepping aside from the role of Head Coach of the VYCW at Diamond Valley for the 2019 season due to increasing work and study commitments, which have meant that I'm unable to consistently commit the time that the role, players and club deserve. It's been a privilege to have worked with such talented players and coaches in my time at Diamond Valley, and I would like to wish all of those involved in the club all the best for the future."

We wish Brendan the best of luck in his future endeavours and appreciate the commitment and dedication to the Youth League program at Diamond Valley Basketball.
