The 2017 Victorian Youth Championship Most Valuable Player, Joel Rimes, has signed with the Diamond Valley Eagles SEABL Men’s team for 2018.

Playing in the north eastern region, Joel started his junior representative basketball career with the Warrandyte Phantoms Basketball Club. While playing junior rep, Joel began playing in the Diamond Valley domestic competition with the St. Martins Panthers, which became his home for the next 2 years.

In 2012, the 196cm forward completed his junior career and begun his senior career with the Warrandyte Youth League team. In 2013, Joel was given the opportunity to play for the Senior Men’s team while playing youth league and top age under 20’s. In 2016 Joel made the move to his hometown Bulleen and played in their Youth League team averaging 14 points per game and 6 rebounds per game in his rookie season.

In 2017 Joel elevated his game to another level, averaging 16.52 points a game, 8.17 rebounds and 2.96 assists per game. Joel’s fantastic year resulted in him being awarded the Big V Youth Championship Men’s Most Valuable Player and a member of the league’s All-Star Five.

“I’m very thankful to have been given the opportunity to represent Diamond Valley in our inaugural SEABL season. I’m so excited to be a part of such a professional, well run program. The club has assembled an outstanding coaching staff, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to play for and learn from them.” Rimes said.

Joel is already looking ahead and wanting to make an impact in 2018. “I believe my versatility and basketball IQ will help me make this jump to the SEABL level and assist our team on both the offensive and defensive ends.”

Grant Wallace is excited about Joel signing with our Eagles.

“Joel is a wonderful signing for Diamond Valley.  A product of the northern region, Joel has played at Warrandyte and then Bulleen, winning numerous awards within the BigV Youth League. In 2018, Joel will be able to apply his skills in the testing SEABL competition and I am looking forward to watching his development.  He has a crafty scoring mentality and a high basketball IQ which will hold him in good stead for the challenges ahead.  If his work ethic and hunger for knowledge is any indication to date he will have a wonderful career at Diamond Valley!”
