A successful Victorian campaign at the U20 Australian Junior Championships held in Ipswich, QLD was driven largely by it’s Diamond Valley contingent in both the Women’s and Men’s competitions.

The Diamond Valley presence extended into the gold medal winning U20 Women’s team where our Big V Women’s Head Coach, Dee Butler doubled as Head Coach of the Victoria Navy team and featured DV juniors and Big V players Courtenay Wragg, Shannon Dufficy and Alex Sharp. The Vics knocked off South Australia in the final, 88-66.

Former St Thomas Hawk, Alex Sharp won the prestigious Bob Staunton Medal, which is awarded to the most outstanding male and female players at the Championships in their respective genders. Alex had an outstanding tournament, leading the way for the Navy blue by averaging 15.7 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists – her best statistical performance coming against a strong NSW team where she collected 24 points, 16 rebounds and 1 assist and 1 block.

In the Men’s competition, Diamond Valley’s new addition to the Big V State Championship Men, Dejan ‘DJ’ Vasiljevic was a key member of the gold medal winning Victoria Navy team, who defeated Victoria White 91-61 in the final.

Also a member of the winning Navy team was long time Diamond Valley person, Shelley Reynolds – mother of Matt and Sam who represent the Eagles in the State Championship Men’s team.
