Young Eagle Commits to GCU & NBA All Star – Dan Majerle

Young Eagle Matthew Jackson recently signed a letter of intent to play for NBA All Star – Dan Majerle, at the Division 1 University of Grand Canyon in Arizona. It has been a long road for Jackson combining club, state and national duties, along with his year 12 studies he has just completed at Marcellin College.

“ Matt is a born and bred Eagle, playing domestic with Watsonia Warriors and joining the DV rep program at an early age. Matt progressively got better and better during this time, going on to represent Victoria 5 times, as well as Australia in the U/17s & U/19s program, culminating in a Silver medal at the 2012 U/17 World Championships in Kaunus, Lithuania.

There is so much more to Matt than playing basketball. He is educated, funny and just an all round good kid. He still keeps company with his mates he grew up around in his domestic days and school days. In the world of ‘I gotta get mine', Matt is the quintessential team player both on and off the floor.

This year Matt will take the step up into the Senior Men’s Championship team and is excited to finish his career with the Diamond Valley Eagles as a one club player. He has had offers to play elsewhere since he was U/14’s, but has stayed true to Diamond Valley and the people who have coached and been there from his early days. Everyone is very excited for Matt and his family and as usual we are very, very proud and grateful for having Matt in our program." – Alan McAughtry

"Matt is a big kid that can play the three or the four for us, he handles the ball and can shoot it. Matt is a very good passer with a big basketball IQ. He is an extremely skilled player and we have high expectations for him with his ability to play basketball." – Dan Majerle Head Coach
