NBL1 Eagles Signs Kayla Bretherton for 2019

Diamond Valley Basketball Association are pleased to welcome Kayla Bretherton to the NBL1 Eagles Womens team for the 2019 season. The former Melbourne Tigers Junior and Former Box Hill Senior Secondary student will be playing her first season with the club and the NBL1.

Kayla moved over to the U.S in 2016, beginning her College career with Midland College, playing 33 games across the 2016/17 season. The next season, the 5-10 guard transferred to The University of Texas of the Permian Basis Falcons, as the opportunity arose to move across with her team mate for the next season. At UTPB, she was a starter for the season, averaging 8.5 points, 4 rebounds and 1.25 steals per game.

Described as bubbly & outgoing by her team mates, Kayla is a high energy player with a motor that never runs out. She is competitive, gritty and makes an impact at both ends of the court. Head Coach Jonathan Goodman had great things to say about her impact on this Eagles team;

Kayla is an exciting addition to our group. She brings a dynamic ability to score points and at a great clip. Kayla has an impressive basketball resume. Competing for Vic Metro as a Junior at National Junior Championships and playing over in the US for two years. Kayla brings a great experience and a great attitude to our group. We are looking forward for her to add to our depth.”

This year, our Eagles Senior Teams will be competing against some of the best clubs in Australia, with Basketball Victoria announcing the new NBL1 League in 2019. Kayla will be an ambassador for Cougars Junior Basketball, building on the strong connections between the Junior and Senior programs.
