Ultimate Civic League Wrap – 2018 Round 5

Round 5 has come and gone, with all teams now having played each other once. A grand final rematch saw a flipped result, while a couple of monster individual efforts keeping us all entertained.

7.05PM The Splashers 90 def. Redbacks 70

 

The Splashers put on an offensive exhibition, making it rain from deep with 15 triples! James Guley led the hot shooting with 21 of his 26 points coming from beyond the arc, while Bryson Norris had a lazy 28 points as Uni Hill seemingly had no answer for the two guards. Ernst Kruger did his best to keep Uni Hill in the game, pouring in 26 points, while Evan Solokidis had 13 of his own.

8.00PM No Big Deal 43 def. by Redbacks 74

 

No Big Deal continued to struggle in their first season of Ultimate Civic League, falling to the well-balanced attack of the Redbacks. Tyson Dunne had 17 points for No Big Deal, as they sit on the bottom of the ladder with only 1 win from the first 5 games. The Redbacks “Spread the love” as some may say, with 4 players finishing with double digit points. This was led by Nathan Grimes (18 points) and Paul Meager (15 points, three 3 pointers), as they continue to build on their strong start to the year.

8.55PM Greenhills 54 def. by St Mary’s Sharks 58

 

In the grand final rematch, St. Mary’s came out on top with a come-from-behind win. In a 19-9 last quarter, the Sharks had the fresh legs and ran right over the top of the more experienced Beavers. Luke Egan did his thing, with a casual 21 points for the Greenhills, while Mark Scherf (19 points) and Daniel Girolami (17 points) led the way for the sharp-shooting Sharks.
