Champ Men make it 2-0

The Diamond Valley Eagles Championship Men's team have gone into the Easter Break as the only undefeated team in the competition  after a 101-68 win over the Melbourne Tigers last night in Oakleigh.

The Eagles led 45-40 at the half before a 28-15 third quarter which saw them lead by 18 at the last break. A 28-13 final quarter saw them run out 33 point winners. Melbourne Coach Nick Abdicevic had nothing but praise for the Eagles. "Once you guys got it out to 15 points, it was all over. We tried a few different things but you were too good. You guys don't have any superstars, but you are deep and everyone comes in and does their job." The Eagles pressure defence caused 19 second half Tiger's turnovers and led to 53 field goal attempts to 26 In the second  half.

The Eagles also led the rebound count 48 to 37 pulling  in a staggering 24 offensive rebounds. Eagle Matt Fennell led all scorers with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Adam Moore was once again workmanlike with 17 points and 13 rebounds and those two led six Eagles in double figures. Brett Fennell 14 points, Sammy Gazzo 10 points and 4 steals, Nathan Truman 10 points and 5 rebounds, and rookie Mitch Lee with 10 points. The referees dominated this one calling 52 fouls and handing out a staggering 72 free throws. The Eagles scored 101 points but were only credited with 8 assists in a tough night at the office. They also had 50 points in the paint and 42 off the bench along with 24 second chance points.

There are no games next week but after the Easter break your Eagles take on the Championship favourites the Corio Bay Stingrays at the Eagles Nest.  The Stingrays have three All Stars and will be looking to build on their 1/1 record. Get down to the game and support your Eagles in what promises to be the game of the round.
