EAGLES 2012 USA TOUR!

On the 15th December 2011 a small advertisement went up on the Diamond Valley Basketball Association website asking for expressions of interest in a proposed USA basketball tour in December 2012.  A meeting was organised by under 18 boy's Junior Championship coach Dave Jamieson in late January with around 100 people attending.

As often happens, there is generally great excitement at the start but these things tend to die out.  Not so on this occasion with Dave Jamieson relentlessly driving the organising and making it all happen.

Here we are now, just 7 days short of a full year's planning, a trivia night, several sausage sizzles, uniform sizing and hundreds of other things that needed to be organised, this Saturday morning at 11.20am, 3 teams, 32 players, 5 coaches and 21 parents and sibblings will be taking off for Raleigh in North Carolina on the east coast of the USA to play games against local high schools.

The excitement last Monday night at the final training where the team photos were taken was apparent with players, coaches and parents alike counting down the hours until takeoff.

"It's been a long road to get to where we are now, just a couple of days short from actually leaving.  The group's been great with a massive amount of fundraising allowing us to get some extra kit for the kids and some spending money for some extras while we are away" David said.  "The kids will get the opportunity of a life time, playing games in the USA, being home hosted a number of times by USA families and going into local schools.  And if that isn't enough, we're going to college games, an NFL game and a couple of NBA games.  It's been a lot of work by a lot of people and will be a trip these kids will remember for the rest of their lives".

If you want to follow the trip, you can do so on Facebook, Eagles 2012 USA Basketball Trip, where we will post details of our travels and photos from games.
