Big V Wrap - Round 16

Round 16 started successfully with both of our mens teams winning on Saturday night. However, Sunday was the opposite, with our teams being unsuccessful in their bids to secure wins.

Our SCM had a great start to their weekend defeating Corio Bay, 103 – 68. It was a scoring spree with 4 players scoring 18+ points for our Eagles. Brandon Conley has continued with his recent hot form scoring 23 points, while both Sam and Matt Reynolds combined for 44 points on the night. On Sunday, our SCM travelled down the road to face rival Eltham Wildcats. Our SCM battled all game but fell short losing, 95 – 79. Matt Reynolds was outstanding with 24 points including 4 3’s, and Ray Sanders gave a great contribution with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Our men are heading to Ringwood this weekend and will be looking to cause an upset against quality opposition.

Our SCW fell short against a great Ringwood Hawks, 78 – 58. It was a tough day for our Eagles with the defensive pressure from Ringwood being exceptional. Kate Oliver had yet another solid contribution with 14 points and 11 rebounds, Kasey Burton also came up with a monster effort on both ends finishing with 15 rebounds. Our women will be playing away this weekend at Bulleen and will be looking to get a win heading towards the end of the season.

Our VYCW played their last game of the season and couldn’t steal a win at home against a great team Ringwood Hawks, 74 – 55. It was another week where Coach Jackson gave each player a great opportunity to show their ability. Brodie Theodore and Jayde Popovski both took advantage of this and finished with 10 points each. We were able to celebrate the milestone for Sian Gillam who reached 50 games on the weekend. As it is their last game of the season we would like to thank everyone who is involved with our VYCW for their contribution and support throughout the season.

Our VYCM sealed their spot for a finals appearance after defeating Blackburn Saturday night, 64 -59. The boys had an exceptional last quarter scoring 16 – 6, Cameron Conlon was the difference in this game with 31 points and 15 rebounds, in only 24 minutes of game time. For their second game, our boys had to travel to Coach Cotter’s old club, Sherbrooke. Four quarters was not enough for this hard fought game, resulting in the game going into 2 overtimes. While there were chances to steal the win in the first overtime, unfortunately Sherbrooke ran away with the game, 90 – 84. Grant Turner had a great game with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Our VYCM have qualified for finals and will be playing against Melbourne Tigers in the first round.
