ST JOSEPH THE WORKER DEBUTS WITH THE DV SCHOOLS PROGRAM !

The DV Schools Program made its debut at a new school in recent weeks – having the opportunity to share the game with the students of St Joseph the Worker Primary School.

The students of St Joseph the Worker Primary are traditionally tilted in the direction of other sports, but had shown interest in Basketball in recent times. Enter DV. We made the visit to the school to give the youngsters a bit of exposure to the sport and the challenge of learning new skills and ideas.

The students were impeccably behaved and well mannered as they took on challenges and gave it their best – supported by their classmates, as there appeared to be a culture of encouragement, support and care amongst peers.

Alessia from class 2G wrote this for the school newsletter :

Coach Mark from Diamond Valley Basketball Association came to our school to teach us about basketball.  We played fun games to help us learn different basketball skills. We learnt how dribble the ball, how to change directions and how to make quick decisions.  I think basketball is a great sport because it is a team sport. I felt happy because Mark was a fantastic coach.’

We would like to thank Carolyn McVeigh, St Joseph the Worker Primary School and the students for allowing us to come and plant the seed with the students that Basketball is an incredibly fun and rewarding sport to take part in. Many great lessons such as teamwork, cooperation and positive communication are all valuable transfers to every day life, and the students began to organically show these traits when taking part in our sessions.

If you would like your local primary school to become involved in the FREE DV Schools Program where we visit your school and share the game in your P.E sessions, or to book return visits for schools already participating – contact DVBA Community Development Officer, Mark Alabakov at mark@dvbasketball.com.au to get the ball rolling !

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
