16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

From Sunday 25th November until the 10th December, Diamond Valley Basketball Association, in conjunction with Nillumbik Shire Council, will be supporting 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based violence, a global movement that started in 1991 to promote a world free of violence against Females. Currently, more than 3700 organisations from around 164 different countries participate in the campaign annually.

The colour orange is a key to the theme, where all activities, buildings, and landmarks are lit and decorated in orange to bring global attention to the issue. Diamond Valley Basketball Association referees will be wearing orange polos over the 2-week period, to support the importance of this cause.

Former Victorian Football League player, coach and federal MP, Phil Cleary, will be leading the charge after he lost his sister, Vicki, in 1987 to domestic violence. Phil has been pivotal in the abolition of the law of provocation in Victoria and changing community attitudes towards violence against women. He will be speaking at Eltham Leisure Centre on Monday November 26th at 7.00pm. For more info, follow the links below:
