Persistence pays off for Diamond Valley stalwart

Upon the commencement of the 2018 SEABL season, Diamond Valley stalwart Matt Reynolds was eager to prove he could compete at the level after trialling and dreaming of playing for a SEABL team since he was selected into his first State Team as an U/20 player. Not tasting the ultimate success with his beloved Eagles as senior in the Big V competition, Matt worked even harder knowing that his club was now in the SEABL competition and he would have to fight for his time all over again.

And fight he has, working harder on his fitness, getting extra work done on court and playing off the bench as a back up to more established players was greeted with a determination that has seen Matt become a vital player for the Eagles and his team. His coaches have grown more confident of his ability to defend very good players,  distribute the ball to his more experienced players and make a shot when the time requires. An Eagle since his U/18 days, it is extremely satisfying to see Matt’s work be rewarded with some excellent games such as last weekend’s win on the road against N.W Tasmania where he was called upon to deal with Mason Bragg, an exceptional young player himself.

“ I couldn’t be happier to see Matty get an opportunity, work to gain his minutes as it takes a special person to play a role and continue to be motivated to be a better player as a first year SEABL player” – Alan McAughtry

“ I’ve enjoyed taking on the challenge of playing SEABL in 2018 with a great group of guys and coaching staff. We have made significant improvement throughout the season and have gained positive momentum which has been awesome to see. We hope to pick up a big home win this Saturday night to close out this season, hoping all the members, sponsors & supporters come out to support the women and men as we would like to thank them for being so loyal during the year, the crowds really impact the teams “ – Matt Reynolds
