EAGLES WOMEN'S JUST FALL SHORT IN CLOSE MATCH AGAINST HAWAII

On Wednesday night, players from our Women’s 2018 SEABL team, including ladies from the U/18’s programs, came together to take on the visiting University of Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine at Parade Collage.

With Collage basketball teams only gaining a certain amount of training and workout hours throughout a week during their pre-season, teams like Rainbow Wahine take their talents on international tours to gain the extra practice before their regular seasons, and to build chemistry among the team. For our Diamond Valley Eagles, this matchup was important to see how Collage teams prepare before games, and the physicality of the American style of basketball.

Our Eagles got off to an absolute flyer, bringing tough defense inside 15 feet and limiting UH’s post players ability to finish around the rim. The team ended the 1st Quarter leading 24, 11, due to playing fast, aggressive and hitting shots in the open floor.

The 2nd Quarter, Hawaii begun to fight back with tighter defense in the key, and finding the three ball with players like Woodfolk and Tago hitting big shots. The Americans ended the quarter on a 25-9 run and took a 3-point lead at half time.

The intensity lifted even more in the 3rd Quarter for Rainbow Wahine, blowing out to a game high 14-point lead with back to back 3’s from their squad, and our Eagles girls not being able to capitalize on the offence.

But were our Eagles going to just sit down and let the American’s blow it out? Of course not! With sheer determination, grit and team offence, the girls climbed back in the 4th Quarter with big 3-point shots deep in the quarter, and capitalizing on poor turnovers by the visiting team. Unfortunately, time just got the best of the Eagles, falling just short of 2 points.

We would like to thank everyone who came down to Parade to support the girls in this scratch match against the Americans, and creating a home court atmosphere for the Eagles. An amazing game of basketball that will be remembered for years to come.

FINAL SCORE: Diamond Valley Eagles 66, University of Hawaii 68
