Big V Wrap - Round 15

Round 15’s results were a mixed bag with both of our men’s teams getting well deserved wins on the weekend. Now our VYCM need to win this Saturday night to clinch a spot in this year’s finals.

Our SCM had a great result defeating Hawthorn, 81 – 71. Brandon Conley continued his dominance inside with 24 points and 12 rebounds, Matt Reynolds and Greg Page helped carry the scoring load with 21 points and 18 points respectively. Our men have 2 games this weekend and will be looking to continue their good form to end the season on a good note.

Our SCW lost a closely fought game against the sharp shooting McKinnon, 94 – 85. Kate Oliver continued her great season with 26 points and 7 rebounds, Amelia Smith had a great game with 21 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Coach Dee Butler would be proud of the girl’s effort in her last game as she is now flying to the U19 World Championships. Our women will be playing at home this Sunday and will be looking to get a win in front of the home crowd.

Our VYCM needed to get at least one win this weekend to keep their finals dreams alive, on Saturday our men travelled to Knox and fell short, 84 – 65. The last quarter of the game was the decider with Knox winning the quarter by 15 points. Mark Girolami had a great game shooting 13 points at 50% and with 3 steals. On Sunday our men played McKinnon at home and got the win they definitely needed to keep their final chances alive. Jack McAughtry was on fire scoring 21 points with 15 points being behind the 3 point line. This Saturday night the VYCM will be playing at home against Blackburn, whoever wins this game will seal their spot in finals.

Our VYCW had a tough weekend, losing to a strong Sandringham Sabres, 82 – 52. It was a great opportunity for our 11 girls to get on the court with every player having a minimum of 10 minutes on the court. Brodie Theodore had a good night with 11 points and 4 assists, Jayde Popovski took advantage of her opportunity with 7 points and 8 rebounds. Our VYCW will be playing at home for their last game of the season, make sure you come down and support them to finish on a high.
