Nunawading Tournament 2017

Over the long weekend we had 29 Teams representing our Junior Eagles at the Nunawading Tournament. Of the 29 teams that entered the tournament we had 16 teams qualify for finals. It was a great effort from all of our Junior Eagles and are excited to see how they perform for the rest of the season.

For further information below are the results for each team that participated. If you have any photos for any of the teams that did participate please send them through to matt@dvbasketball.com.au

GIRLS

Under 12 (1) - Lost in the Grand Final by 2 points.

The Under 12/1 Girls went 3 wins and 2 losses in the lead up games to make the Semi Finals.

On Sunday night we played Keilor in the Semi Final and won 28-18.

Monday morning at 8am we ventured to Nunawading for the A Grade Grand Final to play Werribee who had beaten us by 16 in the early rounds.

It was an incredible Grand Final effort by both teams in which scores were level at the end of normal time. The game went into overtime and unfortunately we lost 37 – 35. Extremely proud of all the girls for their efforts in the 7 games over the weekend.

Bruce Robinson

Under 12 (2) - Finished in 4th Place, losing the Semi Final by 4 points against Nunawading Spectres.

Under 12/2 girls had a very strong weekend. We endeavoured to come up against some teams who were in higher grades then us in our Friday night competition. As a result we discovered a new gear as a team. Finishing 3-3 and unfortunately losing a nail biting semi final to Nunawading. The girls really showed their defensive identity. The best part about the weekend, was that any game that we lost, was met by a terrific response the next game. Which showed a lot of resilience. We are looking forward to the stretch run for our Friday night season!

Nathan Batchelor

Under 12 (4) - Won the Grand Final by 2 points against Central District Lions, remaining undefeated for the

tournament.

The 12-4 girls won the C1 tournament undefeated at 7-0, winning the grand final 26-24!

The girls all contributed to the teams success throughout the tournament.

They worked hard, played together, and when they were challenged they all stood up and fought games out until the end, particularly in the grand final!

The most satisfying thing was that they all had fun and were rewarded for their efforts in the end.

I could not be more proud of these girls!

Fantastic weekend!

Under 12 (5) - Runners Up, losing the Grand Final by 9 points against Ringwood Hawks.

The 12 5 DV girls made it to the GF against Ringwood 2.

After 8 games played the girls played hard and with great intensity made it too the Grand Final.

We lost 20 to 12 but the girls never gave up and all tried very hard till the very end. I was very proud of this group of girls that were much younger than our opposition.

Great tournament to be in as it showed our strengths and weaknesses, which is a positive thing as a coach. A big thank you to our parents and our wondering team managers Jodie and Dan for a great weekend of basketball.

Under 14 (5) - Runners Up, losing the Grand Final by 2 points against Bulleen.

After sneaking into the finals on a three way tie and the dis-qualification of 1 team the girls made the most of their opportunity by winning a heart stopper over Waverly by 1. Unfortunately in the Grand-Final the girls could not quite repeat the same story, after coming from 12 down and scoring 21 in the second half they were unable to beat Bulleen 5 and went down by 2 points.

A great weekend with huge improvements by every single player on the team – Coach Jeff
