DVBA LADIES LEAGUE

On Sunday the 23rd of October, the recently founded initiative, the DVBA Ladies League, will be holding a High Tea for women and girls of all ages to promote and support women in sport. This is an exciting event on our calendar and we are ecstatic to have three guest speakers on board - Janice Crosswhite, Dee Butler and Linda Mancino.

Janice, Dee and Linda are three inspirational women who are prime examples of women who have been able to balance sport with busy lifestyles. This event aims to leave you inspired - a woman on a mission to continue or get back to the sport you love - regardless of your age, physical ability or your own busy lifestyle.

The key objective of the DVBA Ladies League and our three speakers is to promote gender equality and female participation in sport. Female participation through sporting or recreational clubs is lower compared to males and it is an unfortunate reality that females of all ages generally have lower physical activity participation rates than males. In fact, it was found that more than two-thirds of adult Australian women are either classified as being sedentary or having low levels of exercise.

Physical activity has many benefits for a woman of any age. Even low levels of physical activity are better than not being active at all. Getting active, especially via sport, can help prevent and manage diseases, increase health, fitness and body, prevent obesity and increase mental health and social interactions as well as quality of life.

Even though most women are aware of these benefits, they are less likely to engage in sport when faced with many more perceived barriers than possible benefits. Lack of support from family and peers, time constraints, prioritising social time with friends over physical activity, financial costs, fear of injury, long term sedentary patterns and a lack of motivation are just some of the countless barriers that women are faced with.

The DVBA Ladies League High Tea aims not only to address these barriers and how to overcome them but also to remind women that the benefits definitely outweigh the barriers. The benefits of playing sport aren’t limited to physical benefits - the large mental and social aspects are often forgotten or go unappreciated.

We want to work together as mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and teammates to strive to support women in sport, encourage physical activity and improve those statistics.

This event is also a great opportunity for you to meet new people who are involved in the association such as club delegates, volunteers, referees and players. If you’re lucky enough, you will be able to take home a prize from one of our fantastic sponsors! Every attendee is guaranteed to receive a complementary goody bag and some inspiration from our amazing guest speakers. We hope to see you all down at Community Bank Stadium to celebrate and support women in sport!

To book your place at the High Tea, contact the office on: 9432 4720. RSVP Monday 3rd October.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
