RYEN VILMONT LANDS IN THE NEST !
Sharp-shooting 6’5 and 91kg American, Ryen Vilmont has signed on to join the Eagles for season 2016, bolstering what is already a very talented line up.
Ryen comes to us from a stellar DII College career at the Franklin Pierce University Ravens in New Hampshire, where he ranks 4th all time in points scored and was named to an All Conference honor in 3 of his 4 years in the Northeast-10.
In the 2014-15 season, Ryen averaged 20.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists per game and was a sniper for the Ravens – shooting an exceptional 44% from the 3.
A highlight from this past season being a blistering 21 point first half, en route to a 29 point and 10 rebound output against division 1 school St Johns University in New York.
Ryen entered the 2015 NBA Draft, and though he went undrafted, to be in that player pool is an indication of the level of talent he possesses.
‘I’m excited and really looking forward to welcoming Ryen to Australia, and more importantly to our club at Diamond Valley. After talking to a friend in the coaching fraternity about our need for a high caliber person on and off the court to progress both our team and our club – I was pointed in the direction of Ryen as being the one who ticked those boxes’, Head Coach Alan McAughtry explained.
‘Ryen had glowing reports about his character and his playing ability, and with my short dealings with him this has certainly been accurate. I think his addition to the Eagles program, from a professionalism and culture standpoint, will be a great fit.’
DVBA CEO Ross Wignell shared Alan’s sentiments, ‘I’m really happy with this signing. From the footage viewed and the reports we received, Ryen shoots the ball at an elite level from the perimeter; exactly what our team requires. We will require Ryen to be a consistently solid scorer and rebounder for us to make our climb up the ladder from our 2015 final placing.’
