Civic League Wrap - Round 9

Even though there was no NBA players walking through the door, Round 9 of the Ultimate Civic League featured some nail-biting finishes and even an amazing comeback.

Round 9 Results

6.10PM Greenhill Beavers 66 v Wolves 57

Greenhills gained more distance from the competition this week, beating an improved Wolves team by 9 points. After a slow start in the Civic League, the Wolves have now shown they deserve to be at this level. Greenhills had control of this game right from the start, Wolves tried trimming down the margin but Greenhills had an answer for everything thrown at them.

7.05PM Redbacks 45 v Gale Force 49

Another great clash between these two old rivals, Gale Force came out the victors winning by 4 points. With both teams missing key players in Heath Hay and Nick Jones, it was a great opportunity for players from both teams to step up and fill the void. Michael Jones was on fire carrying a large amount of the scoring load. Redbacks came back with a late charge in the 4th quarter but it was simply too little too late.

8.00PM Dream Team 69 v Uni Hill 64

Dream Team pulled off a great comeback against a sharp shooting Uni Hill, converting a 12 point deficit at the start of the 4th quarter into a 5 point win. With several players missing for both teams it was always going to be a challenge to have players step up to fill the scoring punch they were both missing. Eric Miraflores dominated with 27 points including 11 in the last quarter alone. Evan Solokidis was on fire with 27 points and 5 made 3’s.

8.55PM St Marys Sharks 55 v The Splashers 53

An undersized St Marys were back in the winners’ circle after stealing the win from the Splashers in the last 20 seconds of the game. The young Sharks have been known for relying on their bigger bodied players to help get wins in this competition, but this week they proved to the league and themselves that they can without them. Mark Scherf was on the highlight reel again with a massive two hand dunk and the game winning 3 in the last 20 seconds of the game.
