INVESTING IN COACH EDUCATION GROWS OUR FUTURE

On Sunday 11th September, DVBA CEO Ross Wignell presented the final Man-to-Man Coaching Clinic, free for all Diamond Valley-contributing coaches.

Joined on court by the Diamond Valley Eagles U12/3 boys, Ross used the boys as demonstrators and delivered an hour of drills and teaching points covering how to effectively implement man-to-man defense in detail, but with the comfort to teach it well. Ross also dedicated time to demonstrating key teachings with regards to fundamentals – such as shooting, passing and dribbling.

Presenting regular clinics over the course of 8 weeks, Ross has focused on educating and encouraging coaches to use man-to-man defense, instead of zone defense, in order to give players their best chance to prosper long term. There is value in doing so with our junior Basketballers – as it will pay dividends down the track as their defensive capabilities, awareness and communication all become habit.

Through these clinics, coaches have been given a progression of teachings that they can take back to their club and implement right away and begin the process of taking our young athletes to a more complete level, as an Association, than ever before.

Yesterday’s clinic was the 6th Coaching Clinic run by the DVBA this year. In addition to clinics, the Association has also held 2 Coaching Courses this year, available for both Domestic and Championship Coaches to attend. The DVBA will continue to offer coaching education in all aspects of the game for all coaches involved in the Association.

We love to share our knowledge with you and, together, we can continue to grow the game in our local community.
Coaching Clinic DVDs are available to purchase in the DV Office or Eagles Store. For more information please contact the office on 9432 4720.
