Senior Championship Weekly Wrap

Retro round for our SEABL teams saw our Women’s team extend their win streak to 3! A tough weekend for our other senior teams, as we get well and truly into the season.

VYCW

Eagles 73 def. by Waverley 76

The VYCW lost a tough game Sunday, with a 3 point buzzer beater by Waverley after neither team ever led by more than 8 points. Meg Crupi scored 3 of her 22 points (shooting 50% from the field) to put the team up by 3 with just over a minute left. However, the Falcons were able to hit two 3s to finish the game and snap the Eagle’s win streak. Nicola Stewart had another solid game for the Eagles recording a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds) in just 16 minutes.

VYCM

Eagles 55 def. by Kilsyth 85

The VYCM started their weekend with a loss to the 2017 Champions, Kilsyth Cobras. The Cobras started off hot, meaning the Eagles were playing catch up for the rest of the game. Willem Cornelissen had his best outing for the team, scoring 10 points on 71% shooting.

Eagles 68 def. by Ringwood 97

The Eagles had to back up the next day at Community Bank Stadium, facing the Ringwood Hawks. Another slow start was the downfall for the Eagles, as they struggled to connect from outside the arc. Nic Sorani led the team with 17 points (including 3/3 three pointers) while first year player, Matt Baggio, had a strong showing with 14 points and 9 rebounds.

SEABL Women

Eagles 93 def. Sandringham Sabres 83

The SEABL Women enjoyed having a full squad for the first time this season, beating the Sabres by 10 off the back of a strong first quarter. The Eagles did a great job limiting 2 time Olympian, Rachel Jarry, while Lauren Scherf dominated again finishing with 31 point (65%FG), 13 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks.

SEABL Men

Eagles 78 def. by Sandringham Sabres 89

The SEABL Men got down by nearly 20 points in their loss to the Sabres, unable to fight back despite a strong 4th quarter run. Down by 14 at 3 quarter time, the Eagles got to within 6 halfway through the final quarter but were unable to finish off their work. 4 Eagles were able to hit double figure scoring, with Dyson King-Hawea leading the team with 21 points.
