Al McAughtry appointed Full Time DOC

Diamond Valley Basketball Association has announced the appointment of Alan McAughtry as their new Full Time Director of Coaching. He will assume responsibilities on Monday 7th August 2017.

Al has been part of the DVBA team for nine years as one of our DOC’s, a Junior and Senior Coach and played a hand in developing many of the Associations Juniors who have performed at the higher levels that basketball has to offer.

Currently away as an Assistant Coach to Australia’s U19 Women’s Team, preparing for the upcoming World Championships in Italy, Al has been an NITP Coach, Head Coach of Boy’s and Girl’s Vic Metro State Teams, Head Coach of DV’s Men’s Team, Assistant Coach of the Melbourne Boomers and worked on various staffs of Australian Junior Men’s and Women’s Teams.

“This is a very exciting time for the Diamond Valley Basketball Association. Having a Full Time resource devoted to helping and supporting the Association’s Coaches will be beneficial. A major focus for Al will be educating the numbers of Junior Domestic Coaches, especially the ones responsible for teaching our players at U8, U10 and U12 levels,” DVBA’s CEO, Ross Wignell commented.

With 43 Junior Eagles teams currently competing in the VJBL competition, Al will have plenty of Head and Assistant Coaches to work with ensuring they are doing their best at developing our Junior Representative Players.

"After some time away to pursue coaching opportunities abroad, I am excited to be back at the DVBA as the DOC. I am enthused to continue to build on the program that has grown so much and to work closely with the clubs and their coaches and members. I am also excited to work with our coaches in the association and help progress their education and take some things I have learned in my travels and bring them back to the DVBA. I would like to thank the board, committee, the CEO and all involved for showing faith in me to help move forward in creating a great place to play, coach and support all at Diamond Valley,"said Alan McAughtry

The Diamond Valley Basketball Association has more than 5,700 players gracing its floors throughout the week at present. With its Junior Domestic Competition overflowing to several surrounding basketball venues, it is continually working diligently to cater for everyone wanting to play basketball from the area. DVSFC where the Basketball Association calls home is a 40+ year old venue that is in desperate need of improved access, renovating, lighting and the inclusion of more courts.
