Civic League Wrap - Round 18

There is 3 weeks to go, 3 of the top 4 seem to be confirmed but the final placings can move around at any moment. Dream Team are on their last legs to try and steal a spot in finals, while Greenhills drop only their second loss to a desperate St. Mary’s Sharks unit.

Round 18 Results

6.10PM The Splashers 65 v Dream Team 58

The Splashers have made Dream Team’s finals hopes almost diminished with a great 7 point win. With both teams desperate for the win, this game was extremely competitive. Dream Team came out firing with a double digit lead early in the second. The Splashers managed to turn the advantage back in their favour at half time, this game would finally be decided in the last minute of the game when the Splashers stole a crucial win.

7.05PM Uni Hill 64 v Gale Force 58

Uni Hill have fended off Gale Force by 6 points to hold their spot in the top 4. After defeating the Splashers last week, Gale Force were looking to make another upset and stir up the top 4. Uni Hill ran away with a 16 point lead late in the second quarter and from that point, Gale Force did come back strong but would not hit the front for the rest of the game.

8.00PM Wolves 39 v Redbacks 72

Redbacks have taken advantage of the shorthanded Wolves winning by 33 points. The Wolves did not hand the Redbacks the win but with only 4 players it made extremely difficult to keep up with the scoring onslaught. Redbacks did not settle against the defenceless Wolves, only scoring 6 points from behind the arc.

8.55PM Greenhills Beavers 52 v St. Mary’s Sharks 58

The great rivalry continues with the youthful Sharks defeating the experienced Beavers by 6 points. This win also gives the Sharks some breathing space being 4 points ahead of Dream Team who seem to be fighting a losing battle to get into finals. The start of the 4th quarter was the game changing moment with the Sharks storming ahead by 11 points with 8 minutes to go. The Beavers did have a run of their own but it was not enough.
