Wallan senior footballers made it three wins a row on Saturday with a strong win over Rockbank in round four Riddell District Football League action.
In tough and wintry conditions at Ian Cowie Reserve, Wallan met a much improved Rockbank side, and while the Magpies did not put up their best performance, they were able to come away with the points in the 60 point win.
“They were testing conditions. It was extremely windy and it rained on and off throughout the day. To Rockbank’s credit, they have improved dramatically from 2016 and have some classy players across all three lines,” senior coach Daniel Nolan said.
“At times our disposal efficiency was quite low and I expect more from the group going forward. Taking nothing away from Rockbank though, who are moving in the right direction.
“At the end of the day, we didn’t play our best football but still managed to win by 10 goals. It was pleasing as a club, to win all three games again. Our under 18’s continue to show the future is looking bright and the Reserves indicate we have quality depth.
“The most pleasing aspect of the day was the fact that we tried a few players in different positions and they all showed versatility and performed well, especially Alex Louzoi up forward.
“He showed great composure around goal and finished the day with four majors. Jesse Davies continues to shine in the midfield, whilst Corey Grindlay, Brenton Hanson and Damian King contributed throughout the day.”
Following on from this weekend’s break for interleague, the Magpies host Woodend/Hesket
at Greenhill Reserve and will be keen to maintain their winning momentum.
“Good luck to all the players involved in the interleague games this weekend, we have strong representation in both the 18’s and seniors,” Nolan said.
“Our Seniors go into the break in a strong position, sitting with three wins and one loss (only to Macedon) who sit on top of the ladder undefeated.”
Roos in strong effort against Centrals. While Broadford senior footballers endured another loss in their home clash with Melton Centrals on Saturday, it was a stronger and more committed effort from the Roos highlighting improvement in key areas for the embattled side.
With scores level at 2.2 a piece at the quarter break, the Roos got a good start and were highly competitive against a stronger bodied Melton Centrals. A six goal to two second term gave the visitors a 23 point lead at half time which they ran on with in the second half for a 62 point win.
But the Roos could take plenty of positives from the match as they never hung their heads and worked hard to post a credible score with multiple scorers and young talent in Josh Vilinksis and Patrick Coppinger leading the way. Stalwart performer Brent Littlewood continues to also be a stand out for the side reinventing his game up forward.
