Macedon flexed its muscles as one of the premiership contenders in 2017 when it comfortably accounted for Rupertswood by 56-points on Anzac Day.
The Cats led at every change, fighting off rain and a second-quarter challenge from the visitors to record a big win.
Macedon opened up with a four goal to nil first term thanks largely to the presence of Teghan Henderson. The centre half back was left on marked on many occasions and found himself with a dozen disposals and countless set ups inside the forward 50.
Jason Cooke rose to the occasion for the home team with a number of impressive goals including a right foot check side from the boundary line to open the game up.
The Sharks were hurt with a right shoulder injury to Nathan Caldone. His loss added to a number of others who missed the contest due to injury, including ruckman Dean Putt.
Brent Swallow tried hard in the midfield early for the Sharks vbut could not combat the run from Erroll McConnell, Al Collins and Shaun Harrison.
Rupertswood's Sean Hetherington was rarely sighted in the first term before picking up his game mid-way through the second quarter to breathe life back into the contest. Backmen Austin Cicero and Nash Egan were sensational for the Sharks while Chris Kilmartin took a number of strong contested marks and was unstoppable at centre-half forward for the Cats.
The game was ended in the third term when the Cats kicked 3.7 to two points to open up 43-point three-quarter time lead.
Sharks' captain Brett Chambers went from the ground mid-way through the term with a bad cut to his head that required eight stitches. He did not return in the final stanza.
Matt Dick played his best game for Macedon since returning to the club from Carlton and Sydney as the Cats saluted a big win, just three-points shy of its winning margin over Wallan in round one, 17 days earlier.
Dick was awarded the medal for most courageous player on the day. It was on Anzac Day just two years earlier where he made his debut for Carlton in New Zealand.
"It's a good honour to be awarded that, it's a pretty momentous day for Australia and New Zealand and it's an honour to be named that for the game," Dick said post game.
Macedon coach Jeff Andrews was pleased with the win.
"We're happy, it was a good four quarter performance, it was a good, even spread from everyone," Andrews said.
"We didn't take our foot off the gas."
