GISBORNE Rookies might have a few future AFL stars in their midst, with Sam Ramsay and Sebastien Bell-Bartels helping Victoria win the School Sports Australia National Under-15s Championships.
The boys have played for several seasons together in Gisborne Rookies junior teams and Calder Cannons development squads.
With just one Victorian team going to the championships in Maroochydore, the pair negotiated several selection cut-offs until this year, when Victoria sent metro and country teams.
The team was unbeaten in the July championships.
Sam was selected for the All-Australian team and Sebastien kicked seven goals from five games, the third-highest goalkicker in the championship.
Sebastien, a Braemar College student, said the championships were a great experience.
“It was pretty exciting,” he said.
“You get to identify who you are up against around Australia for the next few seasons of juniors.”
