Frequently Asked Questions
What is digital download & why?
In discussions with the Riddell District Football Netball League, it has been made apparent that the delivery of Grand Final vision needs to happen a lot quicker than what has occurred in the past. The previous delivery method of DVD's is a time consuming process which can take weeks to produce in mass. Not to mention having to follow up customers and deliver a physical item to clubs who have disbanded for the year. The natural solution was to offer a digital downloads solution.
Digital downloads is an on demand solution. Once the file is uploaded, the game is available for purchase as an immediate download. This allows the content to be delivered directly to the customer as soon as it is available - days after the game, not weeks.
The concept leverages off the digital world we live in today. Download your file, pop it on a hard drive and play it on your TV! It's that easy!
Not only does digital downloads offer a quicker turnaround, it allows the delivery of HD content which is not possible in a DVD environment. All games are available in 720p HD which will look great in your HD TV.
What do I get?
When you follow through the checkout procedure you will receive a download link to an .mp4 movie file. This is to be downloaded to your computer.
What does it cost?
$15 for Junior games. $20 for Senior games. All payments are processed over a secure server.
Why are the files so big?
To deliver the content quickly to you we have chosen sacrifice file size and apply a quicker compression setting to the vision. Compression takes time - and a lot of it to reduce file sizes. The fact that HD video has up to four times more pixels than standard definition video is another factor.
Generally the files are around the 2.5-4gb mark in size. It is recommended that you have a pretty rock-solid internet connection and bandwidth allocation to handle such a large file.
It is not recommended to download these files off a 3G/4G connection due to the expensive nature of data on these services.
Red Onion Creative takes no responsibility for data charges incurred while downloading these files.
What devices can I play these on?
The h.264 codec used to encode the vision is one of the most compatible codecs available. From your laptop or home PC to your Smart TV, the vision should work across on most modern devices.
Here are some examples:
- Personal Computer using Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player or Quicktime Player
- A Smart TV with USB media capabilities
- A third party media player such as an Apple TV or WD Live
Can I burn my own DVD?
Of course. We do not wish to limit you to a digital file. You are entitled to create a DVD version of your download for personal use with the DVD burning software of your choice.
Some software examples to achieve this are Nero Burning ROM on PC and Toast Titanium on the Mac.
Please consult your software's documentation for instructions on how to burn your own DVD
Can I distribute the download?
No. The download is limited to one license and cannot be re-distributed.
My file won't download
There are a few things you can try:
- Shutdown and restart your computer
- Restart your modem or router to see if you can get a more stable connection
- Download in an off peak period (overnight) where traffic is less congested
- Try an alternative connection (work, friends house etc)
Please note that Red Onion Creative does not directly host or deliver content from our own servers. A third party is responsible for all secure checkout and content delivery services and unfortunately as a result we are unable to directly answer questions related to server speed and traffic status. We are a small part of a larger content distribution network.
If you have repeated download failures please contact support@gumroad.com or via Twitter @GumroadHelp with a detailed description of your failure. We apologise for not being able to directly resolve your issues.
