Riddell continued their undefeated start to the season with a commanding 29 point win over the Sunbury Kangaroos at the Eric Boardman Reserve on Sunday. The match was the biggest of the season to date and promised lots of fire works. Sunbury Kangaroo Leigh Fishendon kicked the first goal in the opening 30 seconds of the game as the Roos dominated the first term. The Roos led by as much as 21 points early in the second term before the Bombers mounted a come back.
The Bombers worked to within two points mid-way through the second term after kicking five of six goals. A small melee was sparked on centre wing that attracted more Sunbury Kangaroos than Bombers. A throw-in took place and three Riddell players swept the ball up forward to plenty of free team mates running loose all over the ground. Matt Darby was all alone in the goal square and kicked truly to put the Bombers in front at the 16 minute mark. This sparked a stunning run of three goals in five minutes as Riddell finished the term with 10 goals on the board and a 32 point lead, a turn around of 51 points in 25 minutes of play. James Nolan was the stand out for term with more than six marks and several goals.
Tierone Cuffe was as gritty as ever for the Roos across half back and teamed up with Adam Walsh to provide many forward thrusts. Unfortunately the Kangaroos couldn't make the most of a handy breeze in the third term and trailed by 16 points at three quarter time thanks to some very costly misses.
The final quarter was a goal fest. As quickly as the Roos pounced with a hard working goal, the Bombers swept the centre clearances to return the favour at the other end thanks largely to some great work from Ethan Foreman. The Roos closed to within 17 points on a number of occasions in the final term but the Bombers were able to kick away.
Young stars James Nolan and Matt Darby shared 12 goals between them, all after quarter time as the Bombers capped off a sensational win.
