Last night, the Melton Toyota Riddell District FNL were defeated by the Red Onion Creative Ballarat FNL in their annual Under 18 Challenge Match at Ballarat's Eastern Oval, winning by 66 points.
Much of the damage was done in the first half, with the BFNL's midfield clearly on top, and BFNL's Angus Wright creating headaches up forward for the RDFNL defenders. On a night where constant drizzle made ball-handling difficult, the RDFNL could manage just five goals from eight scoring shots on the night.
Both teams changed their side up significantly in the second half to ensure players had ample game time in which to press for selection for next Saturday's Worksafe AFL Victoria Country Championships matches, with the Ballarat FNL splitting their squad across two matches, with one playing the Bendigo FNL at last night's venue and the other playing the Maryborough Castlemaine District FNL at the Tatura Showgrounds. The Riddell District FNL also play in Tatura next Saturday, where they take on the Kyabram District FNL.
Best player medals were awarded on the night, with Sunbury's Brody Seymour receiving the honour for the BFNL, and Rupertswood's Ash Millane taking home the RDFNL's medal.
The Senior and 17 & Under netball matches scheduled for last night were postponed due to inclement weather. These games will be re-scheduled for later in the year.
